To whom it may concern:

I am nominating Glenn Hadley, a co-worker of mine, for your Hometown Heroes Award.  Glenn is a Firefighter/Emt with the St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue.  He is also a loving husband and father.  In a society today where a lot of times people don't want to get involved, this off duty firefighter stepped in and did what naturally comes to him, helping people.  This was very evident that day while having lunch with his wife and daughter.  

"He saved a life"

 Glenn has been on the job for over 21 years.  He works out of fire station 7 on the north side of St. Petersburg and is also the station steward there at firehouse #7.  Glenn also gets involved with collecting for good causes such as Muscular Dystrophy and Sickle Cell with his union organization.  As long as I have known Glenn, he has always displayed true professionalism while performing his job and putting the individual or the people first that he was trained and is dedicated to helping.  You can say that he is a model public servant.  Glenn is a prime example of your tax dollars hard at work.  This was surely displayed on the day of December 6, 2008 while off duty.  His dedication to protecting the community is always displayed whether he's on or off duty.  Glenn sees no difference.  His peers especially on his shift would say that he's a down to earth person.  Glenn is just a downright nice guy! 

Glenn is a fine example of the firefighters all across this country of ours.  When it comes to helping anyone, even a complete stranger Glenn does not differentiate between people.  He performs his job well and never expects anything in return.  To Glenn, the reward is being able to make a difference in someone’s life that maybe they wouldn't otherwise have had the opportunity. 

Glenn would never consider himself a hero but, that day he was Mr. Donald Burlock and his four grandchildren's hero.  The fire service profession prides itself with being able to help people during their time of tragedy.  Firefighters are not always in the stations waiting for the next call while some may think.  Firefighters are always on call even when they're not in uniform.  Thank goodness that Glenn was there to render assistance to Mr. Burlock. 

I salute you Glenn for your quick thinking, quick response and your outstanding service and dedication to the community.  You've made all of us in the fire service proud!
